fat tuesday!

It's Fat Tuesday...Do you partake?

We definitely do.  I promised Henry a meaty, cheesy calzone for dinner.

And we'll indulge in tasty dessert as well...maybe cupcakes.  We'll see what the day brings.

I picked up some vintage pink pillows last weekend, a chenille blanket...

and an old, wire egg basket.  I love scouring for vintage finds on cold, February days.  It makes the gray days a little brighter!

And so does she...

It's hard to believe that last year at this time we were waiting to meet her.

I thought she'd never come...just as I doubted that spring would as well.

And now she's 6 weeks or so shy of turning 1!

Edith Rose, what would we do without you?  You are so loved.

opening soon...

I've loved vintage for years.  Long before it was "in".  I love to re-purpose old, found things.  And I love the hunt of finding vintage objects...the hope that stirs inside as I walk inside a little antique shop or garage sale.  The excitement I feel, the giddiness before going to a big sale or flea market...Do you know it?  Anyone else relate to this?

So I've decided to open another etsy shop.  Smilin' Moon Vintage is my new little shop.  Soon to be stocked with sweet, found things from the past. 

Some pieces will be sold as they were found...others will be livened up with chippy paint or reinvented as something sweet and purposeful.

 If all goes as planned, my new little shop will open on Monday!

And in other news...I have several soon to be finished pieces going to my smilin' moon art shop!

Like this vintage tray that I painted...it still needs some work, but it'll be done soon, too!

And now I'm off to finish gingerbread houses with the kids!

Some "after" shots of the hutch we repainted and moved into the family room for our t.v. and dvd storage.

 

I sanded it all down and made it look all "chippy".  I love the detail of old pieces.

 

We found this pine hutch when we were first married.  It sat at a yard sale in St. Charles, Illinois and we snatched it up.  Our first furniture purchase together!  We left it pine for about 10 years.  Then I painted it "chippy" black.  It has housed blankets and quilts, been in the nusery, the hallway and most recently our dining room.  It's got great stories...

So I've been rummaging around looking for a new "old" and bigger piece for our dining room.  I found this two piece hutch in need of lots of t.l.c.  It needs some molding, some paint, a couple boards and something for the bottom front.  I love that this old thing is being saved and resurrected to serve our family's needs.  I cleared away all the clutter from our dining room table, so I filled it up with wine, serving pieces and the things lying around that needed a place to go.

I'm also thinking of painting the oak trim in our dining room white and the wall color lighter.  A whole new look...I can't wait to get started.  Of course, I'm already committed to hosting some holiday gatherings, so I need to get moving.  Why do I have a habit of this?  Finally ready to forge ahead with something I've been thinking of and planning...right before the holidays?  Maybe it's because I know with a deadline, that's the only way it'll get done.

 

Don't know about you folks, but I'm ready for my Friday night glass (or two) of wine.

Oh, and some glimpses of my youngest two on our bed today.

Little hands pulling and pushing around...

Why is she so delighted?

 

Big brother launches himself across our room, bouncing on our bed and making her so happy.

Now I've got to go to this room and figure out what's for dinner tonight...

 

Or maybe...let's keep it clean and order out?
